In retrospect, leaving the oxygen containers on their sides instead of in their proper holders was a dangerous oversight.
But the real problem was bringing them into the MRI room in the first place.
"And to think, two years ago I nearly chose to jump off here," Jenna said to herself as she stood at the edge of a cliff, looking out at the sunset while hugging her husband and infant son.
A voice behind her whispered, "If you want to stay in this reality, don't look down."
My wife laughed and drank a celebratory sip of wine as I commented on the acrid taste of my food.
I laughed too because I knew that, unlike cyanide, thallium is tasteless.
I never understood why my mother wouldn't let me play with the pretty glass doll locked away inside a glass cabinet.
That was until I dropped it and watched in horror as my mother's head cracked into tiny pieces.
"If you take this sealed scroll, I can save your son," the demon said, "but in exchange, you must kill whoever's name is written on it."
I unrolled it to find my daughter's name.
"See, if my girlfriend had a baby on the way, she'd have no choice but to come back, so that's what I wish for," Mike said bitterly to the man beside him at the bar.
"Done!" said the mysterious man as Mike's abdomen started to swell rapidly.
They say our planet looks beautiful from space.
I wouldn't know - by the time I looked out the window of my spaceship, the Earth was already gone.
